Calcutta, Nov. 6: Roads across the state will get a facelift before the next monsoon sets in.
The government said Rs 225 crore would be given to the PWD for widening, strengthening and maintaining 800 km of roads in 18 districts, including Calcutta.
Finance minister Asim Dasgupta said: “We are considering roads a priority.” He met PWD minister Amar Chowdhury and officials of both departments for an hour before unveiling the road revamp programme. The government will release Rs 215 crore directly to the PWD and the rest through zilla parishads.
“The PWD will compile a list of the roads in seven days. Work will begin in December and end before monsoon,” Dasgupta said.
