Injured Carlos out for two ties

Madrid: Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos is set to miss his country’s next two World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay after tearing a leg muscle in Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Partizan Belgrade.

Carlos was injured while taking a free kick after 12 minutes of his side’s 0-0 draw in Belgrade and was forced to pull out.

The first victims of Fifa’s decision to make the champions qualify for the subsequent World Cup, Brazil top the South American World Cup qualifying group with a maximum six points from two games.

They play Peru away on November 16 and Uruguay at home three days later.

Meanwhile in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil have left World Cup goalkeeper Marcos out of their squad. Flamengo goalkeeper Julio Cesar was included instead by coach Carlos Alberto Parreira who named five home-based players to complete the world champions’ squad for the games.
