Mantilla for Chennai meet

Chennai: Spaniard Felix Mantilla, ranked 22nd in the world, has confirmed his participation in the ATP Tata Open championship to be held at the Nungambakkam Stadium here from January 5.

Mantilla, who was in the top 10 last year, would be playing in India for the first time. “I have heard great things about the tournament through other players and hopefully woll get a good start in Chennai for next year’s Champions Race,” he was quoted as saying in a release said on Tuesday.

The Spaniard, a former French Open semi-finalist, has performed consistently over the past four seasons and has beaten top-notch players like Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, Goran Ivanisevic, Patrick Rafter, Guillermo Canas, Thomas Enqvist and Mark Philippoussis.
