A writ petition was filed before Calcutta High Court on Tuesday demanding judicial intervention to spare commuters the trouble they face due to the utter mismanagement of traffic.
The petitioner, Howrah Ganatantrik Nagarik Samity, has, among other things, sought a “total ban” on rallies in the central business district. State chief secretary Sourin Roy, the Metro Railway, the state transport department and Calcutta Police are respondents in the matter that, according to sources, comes up for hearing on October 31 before the division bench presided over by Chief Justice A.K. Mathur.
“Let the matter come up for hearing. We will make our stand clear in court,” said advocate-general Balai Ray, when asked about the NGO’s petition.
