Shib Sagar may be recalled

The 14-member Bengal squad for the forthcoming Ranji Trophy opener against Rajasthan is likely to be announced on Tuesday. Left-arm spinner Shib Sagar Singh may get a recall into the squad.

CAB sources informed that coach Karsan Ghavri wants Singh along with the two other spinners Sourashish Lahiri and Utpal Chatterjee.

It was also learnt that there is a possibility of Nikhil Haldipur getting a recall, provided Bengal opt for an extra batsman. Opener Arindam Das, who has been in and out of the squad, may also find a place along with Amitava Chakraborty.

Govt ‘gift’ for Utpal

The state government has decided to acknowledge former Bengal skipper Utpal Chatterjee’s contribution to cricket here with a goodwill donation of Rs 50,000 that will accompany a felicitation to be given to him at a Town Hall function by Utpal’s club Uttar Kolkata Udayer Pathe on Wednesday.

IFA letter

The IFA has written a letter to the AIFF, requesting the national body to allow Ever-Ready to play in the second division of the National Football League. AIFF president Priya Ranjan Das Munshi had earlier said that the club will not be allowed to play, in spite of the club finishing fourth in the Calcutta Football League.

They also beat Mohun Bagan twice en route to their Airlines Cup triumph recently.

The AIFF later asked the IFA to see to it that the club send in its performance report at the earliest.

Last season, Calcutta Port Trust, along with Mohammedan Sporting, played in the National Football League despite finishing fifth in the CFL.

Saurav wins

Saurav Kothari, who on Sunday won the junior state title, beat Pankaj Agarwal 897-281 in a match of the senior state billiards championships organised by the Bengal Rowing Club on Monday.
