Jhargram (West Midnapore), Oct. 27: Dacoits robbed passengers of a bus here this morning at gunpoint.

Police said a gang of eight miscreants boarded the Bankura-bound private bus from Jhargram town, about 170 km from Calcutta. The bus was packed with over 50 passengers, including women and children.

Minutes after it started, the goons brandished revolvers and pipeguns and asked the passengers to hand over what they had. One of them took over control of the steering wheel from the driver, Mrittunjoy Karak. The others threatened to shoot dead any one raising an alarm.

The police said the “operation was over in 15 minutes”, 5 km from the town. A passenger said the dacoits had cars waiting for them. Abdul Khalil, who was in the bus, said he was carrying Rs 2 lakh. Ornaments on women were also looted.
