Advani in pre-quarters

New Delhi: National champion Pankaj Advani rallied from a three-frame deficit to beat Mei Xiwen of China 5-4 and enter the pre-quarter finals of the World Snooker Championship in Jiangmin, China on Wednesday.

Indian cueists had a mixed day with former Asian champion Yasin Merchant and Alok Kumar bowing along with Chitra Magimairajan while national women’s champion Vidya Pillai and R. Uma Devi made it to the last 16, according to information received here. Among the ladies, Pillai blanked Renata Delahunty of Australia 3-0 while Uma Devi beat Val Finnie of Scotland 3-1. (PTI)
