Next WTO meet in Hong Kong

Geneva, Oct. 21: Hong Kong will host the next World Trade Organisation ministerial meeting, the global trade body said today. A month after the embarrassing collapse of the last meeting of ministers, in Cancun, Mexico, the WTO’s ruling general council decided formally to accept Hong Kong’s offer to hold the next session of the 146-nation organisation, said WTO spokesman Keith Rockwell.

Tax mopup

New Delhi, Oct. 21: Tax collections were up 11 per cent at Rs 96,547 crore in the first half of this fiscal as against Rs 87,232 crore during April-September 2002. While direct tax mop up grew 15.9 per cent to Rs 33,314 crore, indirect tax collection were up 8.11 per cent at Rs 63,233 crore.

MECL selloff

New Delhi, Oct. 21: IFCI has been selected by the disinvestment ministry to undertake the privatisation of Mineral Exploration Corporation (MECL), sources associated with the process said.

Syndicate Bank

Bangalore, Oct. 21: Syndicate Bank has tied up with Allianz Bajaj for distributing the latter’s life insurance products. The bank plans to sell 10,000 policies this fiscal.
