China to field 7 Busan medallists
- Afro-Asian games swimming

Calcutta: China will field seven Busan Asian Games swimming medallists for the Afro-Asian Games. The events will be held at the Swarnandahra Pradesh Swimming Complex from October 25 to 30.

According to information reaching here, the swimmers are Chen Zuo (menís 100m freestyle gold winner at 50.76 seconds), Chen Hua (womenís 800m freestyle gold winner with Asian record 8:24.36), Lin Yi (100m freestyle silver medallist), Zong Qiliang (100m breaststroke silver winner), Li Jin (menís 200m butterfly bronze), Zhou Xiaowei (womenís 50m freetsyle) and Quyang Kunpeng (womenís 100m backstroke bronze).

Many of the above improved their timings in the national championship that followed.

Li Jinís presence should inspire national champion Rehan Poncha to pursue his dream of securing a berth in the 200m Athens Olympics.

The Olympic qualifying mark is 2:04.56 and his best so far has been 2:08.05. Shikha Tandon, the only Indian so far to meet the Athens qualifying mark, and Richa Mishra will be in the forefront of Indian team.

PTI adds from Hyderabad: President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deputy PM L. K. Advani and leader of the Opposition Sonia Gandhi would be the guests of honour at the inaugural and closing ceremonies.

While Advani and Sonia would be gracing the opening ceremony, the President and PM will be the guests of honour at the closing ceremony,Ē IOA president Suresh Kalmadi said.
