Cong leader hails hill tribe women

Guwahati, Oct. 12: Rita Bahuguna Joshi, newly-elected president of the All India Mahila Congress Committee, arrived here today on a five-day tour of the Northeast. This is her maiden visit to the region.

Joshi said, “Mahila Congress will work for the socio-economic and political development of women. We will aim to give power and right to women. The Congress party gives maximum seats to women than other parties.”

Joshi expressed her satisfaction at the development and empowerment of the hill tribe women. She felt that compared to other states, Assam is free from many social evils like problems of female foeticide and dowry.

She accused the BJP, VHP and the RSS of being “power hungry”. The Mahila Congress will organise training camps to hone the skills of women in politics. Joshi will also visit Meghalaya, Mizoram and Manipur.
