Sankar Maitra tipped to be Md. Sp. coach

Calcutta: If everything goes according to plan, Sankar Maitra is likely take charge of Mohammedan Sporting. The post fell vacant following Mohammed Habeeb’s exit after Mohammedan Sporting’s disastrous showing in the IFA Shield, where they lost in the group league.

The Mohammedan Sporting officials were initially discussing a few names like Sankar Banerjee, Shyamal Banerjee, Goutam Sarkar and Maitra for the post. But they brought it down to two — Maitra and Banerjee — on Wednesday.

What may tilt the balance in favour of Maitra is the support of technical director P.K. Banerjee. “We will finalise the name tomorrow,” a senior Mohammedan Sporting official said.

Meanwhile, Krishnendu Roy is likely to become the coach of Tollygunge Agragami. The post fell vacant after Subrata Bhattacharya resigned. The decision will be finalised in an executive committee meeting of the club in a couple of days.
