3 Indians in semis

New Delhi: Lalit Mann, Rupesh Roy and Sumit Gupta maintained their winning streak to enter the boys’ singles semi-finals in the second leg of the ITF international junior tennis meet in Islamabad on Wednesday.

While two of them beat Pakistani players to move into the last four, Mann upset fourth seed Nisindaran Sivenderan of Sri Lanka 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, according to information reaching here.

Roy beat Mutib Pasha 6-1, 6-0 and Gupta defeated Wasif Cheema, also of Pakistan, 6-3, 6-2. The lone Pakistani to make it to the semi-finals is Shahzad Khan who beat Vivek Shoukeen 6-1, 6-2.

In girls’ doubles, top seeds Shweta Kakhandi and Poojashree Venkatesh defeated Sri Lanka’s Amita Arudpragasam and Thiyumi Abeysinghe 6-2, 7-5 to reach the final. Daksha Mulay and Nungudda Wannasuk were trounced 7-5, 6-2 by the Thai pair of Punjaporn Ditthim and Punchanok Khunpitak. (PTI)
