Cadbury faces action over insects

Mumbai, Oct. 6 (PTI): The Maharashtra government today said it will prosecute Cadbury India Ltd after laboratory tests of its chocolates showed presence of insects.

“The laboratory report is positive for the presence of two dead and one live insects,” state food and drugs administration commissioner Uttam Khobargade said. “We will prosecute the chocolate manufacturing company, Cadbury India Ltd.”

Khobargade had a long meeting with company officials after the laboratory report came in.

On Friday, the FDA had seized Cadbury products from counters across the state following complaints from consumers in suburban Andheri in north-west Mumbai and Pune of worm infestation in some chocolate samples.

The company denied the charge and said its chocolates were of good quality and free from infestation.
