Mahisasurmardini Durga

Goddess Durga is worshipped in various forms in different parts of the country. No matter in which part of the country she is worshipped, the common factor is that Durga is synonymous with Shakti, the cosmic power that wages an eternal war against the evil. In Bengal, Goddess Durga is regarded as Mahisasurmardini the destroyer of Mahisasur, who had invaded Swarga (the abode of gods) and had driven the gods out. In Bengal, autumn ushers in a strange and sublime feeling the Puja is round the corner and it is celebration time once again. Keeping in line with the festive season and the fervour, Chitrakoot has organised an exhibition of paintings on the Goddess as created by the Kalighat and early Bengal schools as well as modern artists.
