Rain alert in days ahead

On Mahasashti, spells of rain lashed different parts of the city. There was a downpour, with stormy winds, in pockets of the north and south.

The Alipore weather office clarified that the showers were “normal phenomena”. According to Met office director K.K. Chakraborty, the monsoon normally comes to an end on October 8. So, there is a possibility of rain during the Puja days. He forecast light to heavy intermittent rain, with thunderstorms.

Though there will not be any sustained rainfall during this period, Chakraborty advised pandal-hoppers to take adequate protection and puja organisers to keep tarpaulin sheets at hand.
