Direct tax collection up 15%

New Delhi, Sept. 30: With a rise in corporate tax collection, the net direct tax mopup rose 15 per cent to Rs 32,885 crore till September 25, even as income tax collection was slow. Net tax collection was Rs 28,579 crore during the same period in 2002-03. Corporate tax collection is up 29 per cent at Rs 18,637 crore.

CSE meeting

Calcutta, Sept. 30: Sebi has summoned board members of the Calcutta Stock Exchange for a personal hearing on October 9. Sebi is considering whether to supersede the board of the exchange, and had previously issued a show-cause notice.

Bata shift

Calcutta, Sept. 30: Bata is moving its commercial and marketing operations to Delhi to cash in on the retail boom, but will continue to produce shoes at its Batanagar factory. Company officials met S. N. Roy, chief secretary of the state, to explain the move.

Selloff meet

New Delhi, Sept. 30: The core group of secretaries on disinvestment today discussed the framing of guidelines for natural asset firms, giving hopes of some positive movement on the divestment programme, jolted by the Supreme Court ruling on oil PSUs.

Wockhardt nod

Mumbai, Sept. 30: Wockhardt has received US FDA approval for marketing bethanechol chloride tablets in the US. Wockhardt’s product will be the only generic alternative to Urecholine of Odyssey Pharmaceuticals.
