‘Ambulance’ cop in court

Calcutta, Sept. 26: Three days after the high court ordered for an ambulance to be arranged to bring the Nadia superintendent of police to court in connection with a petition filed by a 73-year-old woman, SP Benoy Chakraborty appeared in court and submitted a report.

Renuka Pal, a resident of Sonadanga in Nadia’s Dhubulia, had moved court alleging that she had been tortured by “CPM hooligans” who had also grabbed her land.

On Tuesday, the officer in charge of Dhubulia submitted a report but the judge took exception to the absence of the SP, who reported sick. Justice Pranab Chattopadhyay today asked Chakraborty to protect Pal and her property. He also asked the police to file an affidavit.
