CFC, Peerless in Super Div.

CFC and Peerless qualified for next season’s Super Division on Monday. CFC defeated BNR by a Reazul Mollah goal to enter the first division group A championship leg semi-final. In another tie, Peerless beat Calcutta Customs by a similar margin, B. Francis was the scorer. They also made the semi-finals.

Four teams will make it to the Super Division next season from group A while two teams from Super Division will be relegated. A total of 14 teams will battle for honours in the Super Division.

Title for Ranjan

Top seed Ranjan Prasad won the under-14 boys’ title in the Aarbur Calcutta hardcourt tennis championships. He beat third seed Akshay Ashok 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Men’s singles first round: Abhishek Jagnani bt Ajay Singh 1-0 (Retd.); Bhagirath Kumar bt Tapan Halder 7-5, 6-2; Manoj Kumar Sewa bt Snehashis Mukherjee 6-3, 6-2; Satirth Partnaik bt Rishi Chaturvedi 3-6, 6-1, 6-1; Robin Das bt Samriddh Burman 6-2, 6-3; Dhruv Kumar bt Nirvick Mohinta 6-2, 6-3; Samrat Ghosh bt Farid Alam 6-2, 6-4; Vinod Kumar Sewa bt Md. Younis 6-0,6-2. Boys’ U-14 final: Ranjan Prasad bt Akshay Ashok 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Expedition

A four-member team from the Howrah District Mountaineers and Trekkers’ Association scaled an unnamed peak (20,000 ft approximately) in the East Tosh glacier region of Himachal Pradesh early this month.
