Indians qualify for world meet

New Delhi: India secured a berth in the world golf championships after producing an impressive performance in the Nations Cup at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club course in Singapore on Sunday.

India, who started the day tied for fifth position with Singapore, finished joint second with China after the fourth and final round for a tournament tally of six-under 282, according to information received here.

Myanmar won the championship finishing five strokes ahead of India and China.

The Indian team of Digvijay Singh and Gaurav Ghei tallied one-under 71 in the final round following rounds of 70, 73 and 68 earlier in the tournament.

The Indians pipped the hosts to fourth position (four under 284).

The top four teams at the Nations Cup qualified for the world championships to be held in Kiawah Island, US, in November.
