Hooch death suspensions

Lucknow, Sept. 21 (PTI): Seven persons, including the district excise officer, were suspended in connection with the hooch tragedy in the city even as the toll went up to 15 today.

The station house officer of Kaiserbagh police station, the most affected locality, was suspended for dereliction of duty, sources said. An excise department inspector, two head constables and two constables were the others dropped.

Chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has asked the excise department to launch a drive against those brewing illicit liquor, a government spokesman said.

Three more persons who consumed the killer brew died at a city hospital today, said senior superintendent of police Rajeev Ranjan Verma. Twelve persons died and several fell ill after consuming spurious liquor in the Latouche Road area of the city yesterday.
