Arafat adviser urges truce

Ramallah, Sept. 16 (Reuters): Yasser Arafat’s security adviser today urged Israel to accept a truce as the UN Security Council prepared to vote on a resolution opposing Israeli threats to “remove” the Palestinian President.

Palestinian and international officials say Israeli action against Arafat could ignite the region and destroy a US-backed peace plan. But the resolution faced a veto by the US which said it failed to condemn Palestinian “terrorism”.
