Stars asked to explain fracas

The new secretary of the IFA is getting tough. The association wants some stars of the Maidan to depose before it on Sunday and explain their conduct in the violent Mohun Bagan-East Bengal derby of September 4 where three players were marched out by referee Subrata Sarkar.

Those asked to depose are Marcos Parreira, Abhay Kumar, Sanjiv Maria, Basudeb Mondal, Mehtab Hussain, Lolendra Singh and Rishi Kapoor from Mohun Bagan and East Bengal’s Dipak Mondol, Debjit Ghosh and Mahesh Gawli. The statutory match bans have been served out by the players.

Also called up are Dipendu Biswas, Seikh Sanjib, Hussain Mustafi, Zaheer Abbas and Amjad Ali Khan of Mohammdan Sporting for charging Udayan Haldar after their league match vs East Bengal on August 19. The league sub-committee will hear these depositions.

CCD meet

Rana Das and Gourav Brahmachari qualified for the boys’ singles final of the CCD table tennis tournament. Rana beat Sourav Das 4-3 and Gourav downed Soumya Subhra Bose 4-2.

CAB transfers

East Bengal picked up Jasobanta Biswas from Victoria Sporting in the day’s CAB inter-club transfers. Thirty-one sought transfer with one withdrawing later.

Sub-jr tennis

Bengal’s Shivika Burman won the under-14 title in the Nutrine Naturo sub-junior tennis meet. But statemate Danielle Jones lost the under-12 final.

FINAL RESULTS

Girls’ U-14: Shivikar Burman by Prerna Mythri Appineni (AP) 6-1, 6-0; U-12: Prerna bt Danielle Jones 7-5, 6-3.

Boys’ U-14: Tariq Jacob (TN) bt Varun Gunaseelan (TN) 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
