HCL offers cheap PC

Calcutta, Sept. 10: HCL Infosystems has launched a Rs 20,000 personal computer (PC) to combat the grey market menace, which constitutes almost 60 per cent of the market.

“The EzeeBee PC has an AND Athlon processor and will be loaded with the Linux operating system,” said president and CEO Ajai Chowdhry.

The Rs 1270-crore company has lined up promotional and marketing activities to take EzeeBee into small towns and cities to increase computer awareness.

Chowdhry said if the country wanted to become an IT superpower, the government had to take an initiative in developing the domestic hardware industry.

“The government has suffered an estimated $2.6 billion due to tax sops to the software industry,” said Chowdhry.
