| Sanyal clinched a last-ball win
Hyderabad: A superb allround performance by Sanjib Sanyal helped Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) XI score a thrilling last ball win over Associated Banks and set up a title clash with defending chmapions Chemplast in the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament on Monday.
Sanyal scored a scintillating unbeaten 87, laced with five fours and one huge six as CAB XI reached the target off the very last ball at the Gymkhana ground in the first semi-final after the Bank team had scored 251.
Sanyal had earlier taken two wickets for 36 as Associated Banks reached a good total, thanks to a brilliant 112 by Daniel Manohar and a handy 59 by B. Akhil. Medium-pacer Shib Shankar Paul took three for 30.
Rohan Gavaskar gave a flying start to the CAB innings with a fluent 43. Other important contributions came from Laxmi Ratan Shukla (47) and Shib Sagar Singh (36) but it was Sanyal who anchored the innings to clinch a thrilling victory.
In the other semi-final, Chemplast trounced India Cements by 43 runs. Chemplast scored 257 with Badrinath scoring an unbeaten 103 studded with one six and ten fours.
Chemplast bowlers L. Balaji, Ravi Kumar and Srikumar Nair restricted India Cements to 214 in 47.5 overs.
