Inflation falls to 3.7%

New Delhi, Sept. 7: The rate of inflation has slipped to 3.7 per cent due to a fall in the prices of vegetables and other food articles, edible oils and non-food items. The point-to-point wholesale price index inflation fell to a 32-week low for the week ended August 23 from 3.71 per cent a week ago despite manufactured products becoming costlier and fuel prices remaining firm for the third consecutive week.

Maruti supplies

New Delhi, Sept. 7: Maruti Udyog Ltd, hit by a prolonged strike at DCM Engineering, its main supplier of cylinder blocks for engines, has asked the other three suppliers, Hinduja group company Ennore Foundries, Amtek Auto, and Kirloskar Oil Engines to step up their production, managing director Jagdish Khattar said.

Mumbai, Sept. 7: Reliance Infocomm is planning to recruit 1,000 call centre agents, in addition to its existing 2,500 staff, to handle an increase in queries as the company is expanding commercial operations to cover 693 towns and cities in the country.

Trai papers

New Delhi, Sept. 7: Trai is expected to convene separate open house discussions on the consultation papers on unified licensing regime and measures to address disturbances caused by introduction of WiLL services as directed by the TDSAT on September 17 in Delhi and on September 19 in Hyderabad.

Mittal deal

London, Sept. 7: The LNM Group, headed by Lakshmi Mittal, has reached a draft agreement with the Polish government for the acquisition of Polskie Huty Stali S.A. in an over £630 million deal.
