Trinamul activist dead

Kamarkundu (Hooghly), Sept. 6: The body of a Trinamul Congress activist was found this morning on the railway track near Kamarkundu station, about 35 km from Calcutta.

Nikhil Ghosh, 38, had gone out to attend a party meeting yesterday afternoon. His family lodged a complaint after Ghosh did not return in the night.

Police said the body, which was found by residents around 6.30 am, bore marks of multiple injuries and the face was so badly bruised that it was hard to be recognised. “We are not sure if Ghosh committed suicide or was murdered. The cause of death can only be ascertained after getting the post-mortem report,” said Niranjan Naskar, the officer-in-charge of Kamarkundu police outpost.
