Stretcher absence leads to abandonment

Wednesday’s CFL first division group A match between George Telegraph and Milan Bithee at the East Bengal ground was abandoned after 40 minutes because of a strange reason.

A Milan Bithee player got injured and couldn’t be removed from the ground since there was no stretcher. With nobody taking him off, referee Kalikinkar Banerjee called off the match. IFA secretary Subrata Dutta admitted there was no stretcher at the ground.

“We have decided not to have matches at enclosed grounds in the absence of a stretcher. The agencies we hire to have stretchers at grounds failed to turn up today,” he said. About the incident, the official said chances of “ulterior” motive can’t be ruled out and a decision will be taken after receiving the referee’s report.
