Two Ks set to play in Mumbai

Mumbai: Greats Garri Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov are among the top 13 Grandmasters to be seen in action in the proposed category-20 Super Grandmaster world invitation chess tournament to be held here in December.

Chairman of Mumbai Chess Association Raghunandan Gokhale announced on Tuesday that the Indian challenge will be spearheaded by Viswanathan Anand, the other representative being Krishnan Sasikiran.

Vladimir Kramnik, Alexander Grischuk, Peter Svidler and Evgeny Bareev (all Russia), Peter Leko of Hungary, Alexei Shirov of Spain and Michael Adams of England will be some of the stars to take part.

“Others likely to take part in the Rs 30 lakh prize money tournament are Judit Polgar, Ruslan Ponomariov, Vassily Ivanchuk, Vladimir Akopian, Zurab Azmaiparashvili, Nigel Short, Alexey Dreev, Vladimir Malakhov and Boris Gelfand,” he added. The meet, to be played in the all-play-all format, will also witness special lectures and training sessions by Super GMs apart from a series of rapid games, blindfold games, where a top super GM will play blindfolded exhibition matches.
