Robbers lynched

Agarpara, Aug. 31: Two persons were lynched at Agarpara station by a mob after they snatched money from a trader.

Three persons accosted Bacchu Chowdhury, a local trader, when he alighted from a local train, and grabbed the money he was carrying. As they were running away, people at the station gave chase and caught two of them. They were beaten to death, but the third escaped by hurling bombs.

Jawan drowned

Jalangi (Murshidabad): A BSF jawan and a Bangladeshi smuggler he was trying to catch are feared drowned in the Padma after they fell off a boat during a scuffle. The body of 35-year-old Sube Singh from Rajasthan has not been found despite searches by both Indian and Bangaldeshi border guards.

Mobile mishap

Chinsurah: Sanjay Banik, 35, died on Saturday night when his motorcycle skidded off G.T. Road and fell into a roadside ditch at Pandua in Hooghly. Police said the mishap took place as Banik was speaking on his mobile phone while riding his bike.
