Court relief for lecturer

Calcutta, Aug. 29: A division bench of Justices .A. Chowdhury and A. Barua today allowed Kaushik Ganguly, the Science College lecturer arrested last year for alleged links with a Naxalite outfit, to leave the city.

Ganguly had been granted bail early this year but the court had laid down a condition that barred him from leaving the city. Today, his lawyer told the court he was a scientist and should be allowed to travel for research.

The petition was moved by Jyotirmoy Adhikari, son of law minister Nisith. Additional public prosecutor A. Goswami did not oppose the prayer.

The teacher of chemical engineering was charged with having links with the People’s War.
