Calcutta, Aug. 26: A day after taking their vehicles off the road, private transport operators called off their three-day strike after the government buckled under pressure and put on hold its decision to impose enhanced taxes.
After a meeting with transport operators, the government said it had agreed to postpone its move to levy enhanced taxes.
The three-day strike from tomorrow by petrol pump owners across the state is still on. IOC and HP-owned pumps will be open.
The government has enhanced different taxes and fees, including road tax, charges for certificate of fitness and also increased onetime tax.
