Bhutan exiles unite
Siliguri, Aug. 25: Seven exiled Bhutanese organisations have joined hands to form the Human Rights’ Council of Bhutan.
Announcing the formation of the organisation at a news conference held here today, the councillor general of the organisation Tek Nath Rizal told reporters that the council was formed to fight for the rights of the Bhutanese people. The six organisations include the Association of Human Rights’ Activists, Bhutan, Bhutanese Refugee Representatives Repatriation Committee, Bhutanese Refugee Women Forum, Centre for Protection of Minorities and Against Racial Discrimination in Bhutan, Human Rights’ Organisation of Bhutan, People Forum of Human Rights’ of Bhutan and the Students’ Union of Bhutan.
CDs seized
Cooch Behar: Cracking down on a flourishing trade in pirated CDs, district enforcement branch officials raided three video parlours in Dinhata town on Monday afternoon, seized 860 pirated CDs and arrested two businessmen. Though Chandan Saha (36) and Ramen Debnath (26) have been booked for violating the Copyright Act, Tapan Saha, another trader dealing in pirated CDs, managed to escape.
Cong rally
Gangtok: Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee has described the 14-hour Sikkim Sadbhavana Jan Jagran Abhiyan rally held by the party on Sunday “a huge success”. The rally was organised to spread the message of communal harmony among the various communities living in the state. The aim of the rally, according to the party press release, was to ease communal tension and disharmony.
