Harikrishna slips to eighth

Abu Dhabi, Aug. 23 (PTI): GM P. Harikrishna suffered a shocking defeat against Russia’s Leksandr Poluljahov and slipped to joint eighth after the sixth round of the 13th Abu Dhabi chess festival in progress here.

GM Vasily Yemelin of Russia emerged sole leader with five points after scoring a victory over GM Jovaba Baadur of Georgia in just ten moves.

Seven players — Armenian GMs Smbat Lputian and Gabriel Sargissian, Kazakhstan’s Evgeny Vladimirov and Pavel Kotsur, Dizdar Goran of Croatia, International Master Javad Maherrmszad of Azerbaijan and Poluljahov — are close on the heels of the leader half a point behind.

Abhijit Kunte, Sandipan Chanda and Harikrishna are in the next group of players with four points each. Kunte drew with Sandipan in 15 moves.
