Husband kills wife

Calcutta, Aug. 23: Soumi Chakroborty, 22, was shot dead allegedly by her husband at his grandfatherís empty flat on Hari Pada Dutta Lane in south Calcutta tonight.

Soumi, a student of Class XI, was married to Tuhin Chakroborty for three years, though a divorce case was on, police said.

Soumiís parents informed Tuhinís father, Tapan Chakroborty, as their daughter was getting late to return home.

Tapan then went to the flat where he found that the lights were on but the door was locked from inside. He broke open the flat to find the two lying in a pool of blood.

Soumi had been shot close to the ear, while her husband had shot himself on the hand, police said. Tuhin has been admitted to the MR Bangur Hospital and has been arrested.

Police have recovered three firearms from the flat, deputy superintendent of police (town), Humayun Kabir said. Tapan has been held for interrogation.
