Calcutta, Aug. 18: Indian Tea Association (ITA) has decided to send a trade delegation to Russia in early September in a bid to regain its lost ground.
The major tea exporting firms under the ITA umbrella will be a part of this team that will be led by ITA chairman Bharat Bajoria in co-ordination with A. K. Bhargava, executive director of AFT Industries. The team will meet key importers in the Russian Federation to ascertain their requirements.
Russia, which imports around 180 million kg of tea annually, remain a key market for Indian teas. The erstwhile Soviet Union accounted for 50 per cent of India’s total exports. However, after the break-up of Soviet Union India’s share of exports to the Russian Federation has significantly declined.
Exports of Indian tea has dwindled to 60 million kg from the levels of 110 million kg a few years ago.
