Abhishek clinches title

Abhishek Mukherjee was made to sweat it out before clinching the men’s singles title beating Kallol Ganguly 6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, 12-10 in the final of Shila Devi memorial table tennis championships, which concluded at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on Sunday.

The finals of sub-junior boys and girls singles also went into seven sets, with Somrup Nag and Shreya Ghosh finishing winners, respectively.

Indoor cricket

Hong Kong Bank and Pioneer Polyfab on Sunday won in the second corporate indoor cricket, being held at Space Circle, defeating Perfetti and Indal by 34 and 50 runs, respectively.

Tata Steel, ITC, Eveready, Tata Steel and S.P. Yarns also notched up victories in the day’s other matches.

Waterpolo tourney

Six teams will take part in the Calcutta Sports Association’s invitation waterpolo meet at its course starting Monday. Outstation teams like Deccan Gymkhana from Pune, Central Railways from Mumbai, and a team from Kerala are expected.

The total prize money is Rs 75,000, winners getting Rs 15,000. The final is on August 24.

Saha to join CAB XI squad

Bengal U-19 wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha will join the CAB XI squad for the Buchi Babu invitational meet which started in Chennai on Sunday.

Wicketkeeper Aniruddha Roy sustained an injury during the KSCA invitational meet final, but will stay with the squad.

Meanwhile, Subhajit Paul, who was in the Bengal probables, has undergone a cartilage operation and has been ruled out.
