Squad for sub-junior soccer

A 20-member Bengal team, coached by Sujit Chakraborty, has been selected by the IFA to take part in the sub-junior national soccer meet in Aizawl from Wednesday. The squad roster was released by the association on Saturday.

THE SQUAD: Goalkeepers: Uttam Patra and Subhas Das. Defenders: Somnath Das, Ganesh Hansda, Rajiv Ghosh, Mriganka Sharma, Sandip Mondal, Arup Patra and Chanchal Saha. Midfielders: Ranjit Chatterjee, Samar Das, Suman Dutta, Arup Singha, Shabbir Ali and Keemei Gang Mei. Forwards: Biswajit Mazumdar, Ashim Das, Md Shahid, Sankar Oraon and Amit Biswas.

Indoor cricket

Electrosteel, Coal India and HSBC won their respective matches of the corporate indoor cricket meet at Space Circle Saturday. They beat Tata Steel (by seven runs), CESC (by 24 runs) and ICICI (by 94 runs), respectively.

Blood donation

Despite it being a weekend, a goodly 951 people donated blood on Football Lovers’ day, on Saturday, here. Organised jointly by the IFA and the Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, West Bengal (AVBD). Ex-soccer star Surojit Sengupta, whose signature was on the certificates issued, also donated blood, along with Swami Chinmayananda of Ram Krishna Mission, among others.

TT meet

Sayan Roy Chowdhury and Gourav Brahmachari moved into the final of the Shila Devi Memorial meet at the BTTA coaching school, Rabindra Sarovar on Saturday. The girls’ final will be between Shreya Ghosh and Sampati Biswas.
