26 killed in Tripura

Aug. 14: In Independence Day-eve bloodbath in the Northeast, 32 people were killed in three incidents, Tripura bearing the brunt of the violence.

Twenty-six non-tribals died when the banned All Tripura Tiger Force struck twice in Khowai subdivision of West Tripura district within half-an-hour from 9.45 pm.

Militants gunned down 11 persons in Kamalnagar under Kalyanpur police station. In Krishnapur, under Teliamura police station, 15 more were killed.

The other deaths occurred in Manipur, where six passengers died when a bomb ripped apart a bus near Imphal.
