India camp draws on Bengal trainer

Former Bengal Ranji player Ranadip Moitra will be one of the physical trainers at the India probables’ pre-season conditioning camp beginning in Bangalore on Thursday. John Wright will be in charge of the camp to be held in two phases. The first phase will run till August 26, the second will begin on September 1.

With attendance mandatory for all those except the trio (Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh and Mohammed Kaif) playing county cricket, the likes of Anil Kumble and Rohan Gavaskar won’t be able to play the three-day KSCA invitational meet final, also beginning in Bangalore on Thursday.

Kumble guided Karnataka XI to the final while CAB XI made the grade under Utpal Chatterjee’s leadership, following an innings win over Indian Airlines.Gavaskar didn’t make the Bangalore trip with the team, though the CAB was trying to get him to play the semi-final and final.

Cadet boys’ TT

Arnab Sen and Kaushik Das made the cadet boys’ final of the Shila Debi Memorial table tennis meet at the Ladies’ Park on Wednesday by beating Anirban Sinha Roy 10-12, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5 and Biswadip Bhattacharya 11-8, 11-4, 11-8, respectively .

Rapid chess

Chhatra Sangha will organise an all-Bengal Open rapid chess meet at Santoshpur Mollargate on Saturday and Sunday.

Indoor cricket

ICICI beat CII by 82 runs in the second corporate indoor tournament match on Wednesday at Space Circle.
