New Delhi, Aug. 11 (PTI): Mirroring the growth in the WiLL services segment, the cellular sector added 11.5 lakh users in July, taking the overall subscriber base to 1.63 crore.
As per the latest subscriber base figures released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the subscriber base touched 1.63 crore in July compared with 1.51 crore in June.
In Delhi, the subscriber base rose to around 23 lakh in July from 21.08 lakh in the previous month, as Bharti Cellular continued to lead over its rivals Hutchison Essar, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) and Idea, with a subscriber base of 11.1 lakh.
In the financial hub of Mumbai, the subscriber base rose to 20.2 lakh in July, with Hutch leading the race with 8.25 lakh users compared with its nearest rival BPL Mobile, which had a subscriber base of 7 lakh, during the period in reference.
The subscriber base in Chennai and Kolkata touched 5.74 lakh and 6.28 lakh, respectively.
The cellular subscriber base in circle A states comprising Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu surged to 57.1 lakh in July over 52.95 lakh in the previous month.
According to COAI, the cellular user base in circle B sates comprising Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh rose to 43.9 lakh in July from 41.07 lakh in June.
COAI said the cellular user base in circle C states comprising Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and the north-eastern states stood at 6.78 lakh in July compared with 6.34 lakh in the previous month.
