Three marched out

Calcutta Football League matches witnessed a flurry of red cards on Wednesday. While Shyamal Samanta of Police AC was marched out of the first division group A match against Calcutta Customs for indecent behaviour, Salkia Friends’ Kartik Kai had to leave the ground against Peerless SC for double booking.

Customs rode a Sanjay Majhi against Police AC. S. Nandy and Francis Blanyon scored apiece for Peerless in their 2-0 win over Salkia Friends. In a third division match, Souvik Bhowmick of Kalighat Friends struck a Rashbehari ABM player and was shown the red card at Police ground. Rashbehari won 3-1.

Schools’ soccer

Rayat Biswas scored a double to help Santipur Hindu School beat Vivekananda Pallikishore Bharati HS 2-0 in the city zone of the Britannia-Anandabazar Cup inter-school football meet on Wednesday.

In another match, Kendpukur HS edged past Sukantanagore Vidyaniketan 2-1.

Meet for kids

The Milan Samity-organised football tournament for children has attracted eight teams in the nursery division and as many in the sub-junior division. The nursery section gets underway on Sunday with the final slated for August 21. The sub-junior half starts on August 19 and the date of the final is yet to be announced.

U-19 tour

The CAB will send its under-19 outfit to Maharashtra for some pre-season practice matches. The tour will begin in the third week of September and they will be playing three matches against teams from Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, a Bangladesh youth team will be coming here for an exposure trip to play against the CAB under-17 side. The matches between them will be held in October.

CSA win

Calcutta Sports Association brushed aside PYMA 10-3 while Rishra Swimming Club beat Salkia Swimming Association 8-4 in the YMCA centennial waterpolo meet at College Square on Wednesday. Both winners moved into semi-finals. Rafiqul Sheikh emerged the day’s highest scoreer, netting four goals for CSA.

Hockey trial

The trial for selecting the Bengal hockey team for the junior national meet will commence in September at SAI Eastern Centre. Players born on or after January1, 1983, need to contact the BHA office before August 16, to enlist themselves for the trial.
