Love marriage legal: Pak court

Islamabad, July 29 (PTI): A Pakistani court has declared a petitionerís love marriage as legal and asked the police to drop a case filed against the couple.

Justice Raja Sabir of the Lahore High Court said the law could not prevent men and women from marrying by choice.

The petitioner, Afreen Beg, told the court that her parents had got her engaged to Farrukh Mahmood in January, 2003, and regularly extorted money from him. Beg said she had married Mahmood of her own free will on June 27 and they were living together since then. However, her parents now oppose the marriage and had filed a case against the couple on July 15.
