Popov completes a double

Barcelona, July 26 (AFP): Sprint tsar Alexander Popov completed the double at the world swimming championships here on Saturday adding the 50m freestyle to his 100m gold.

Mark Foster took silver with the bronze going to Pieter van den Hoogenband.

Ian Crocker of the US set a new world record in the menís 100m butterfly on his way to victory. Crocker clocked 50.98 to better the previous mark of 51.47 set by Michael Phelps on Friday. Phelps took silver, himself under his own record in 51.10, with the bronze going to Andrii Serdinov of the Ukraine in 51.59.
