Calcutta, July 25: Responding to the government’s call to joint sector housing companies to take up social responsibilities, the Bengal Peerless Housing Development Company has decided to set up a research and culture centre on Bengali music at Santiniketan.
“We have asked joint sector housing companies to come forward and take up social responsibilities. We have been telling these companies to stress on art, culture, environment protection and improving the quality of life of the weaker sections,” housing minister Goutam Deb said.
The housing company’s research and culture centre — Bangla Sangeet Academy — will be completed within two years.
“We have identified the land and talks are on with other organisations, which are assisting us to set up Bangla Sangeet Academy,” said K.S. Bagchi, managing director of the housing company.
