Imam held in Pandya murder case

Ahmedabad, July 24 (PTI): Four persons, including the imam of a mosque, were arrested in Andhra Pradesh for their alleged involvement in the killing of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya.

So far 17 persons have been arrested in the Pandya murder case.

The imam of Idgah Masjid in Jagityal, Syed Akbar, was arrested yesterday in Karimnagar district by a special police team from Gujarat and produced in a court there for transit remand, police said. Akbar, a native of Regunta village, was allegedly involved in several offences.

Two others were arrested from Saidabad and one from Mallepally, police said. They added that the trio had been indentified as Mohammed Mansur Siddiqui, Rahim and Abdul Samad.

The accused were produced before a local court yesterday evening for transit remand.

The sources said members of the minority community staged a dharna in Karimnagar to protest the imamís arrest.

The CBI is investigating the Pandya murder case.
