Islamabad, July 23 (PTI): The chief of US central command (Centcom) Gen. John P. Abizaid today met Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as part of a three-day official visit to Pakistan.
The visit, Abizaid’s first to the country since assuming command earlier this month, comes a day after Pakistan said it would consider sending troops to Iraq.
“They exchanged views on the geo-strategic situation in the region and matters relating to national interest,” the Associated Press of Pakistan said.
Musharraf expressed the hope the visit would help strengthen relations between the armed forces of the two countries, a Radio-Pakistan report said.
Abizaid heads a nine-member delegation. General abizaid thanked the president and pakistan army for the hospitality being extended to him and members of his delegation, it added. he expressed deep appreciation of the excellent cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries and the role of pakistan armed forces in combating the scourge of international terrorism. vice chief of army staff general muhammad yusaf khan, us ambassador in pakistan nancy powell and other senior officers were present during the call in rawalpindi.
