Neglect slur on hospital

Calcutta, July 18: Relatives of a patient who died today accused a leading city hospital of negligence and wrong treatment.

Sutapa Paik, 24, passed away in the evening at the Kothari Medical and Research Centre. Her relatives lodged a complaint at the Alipore police station against the hospital authorities. The hospital, however, denied negligence and wrong treatment.

Sutapa was admitted to the hospital on July 14. Doctors said she had an infection in the gall bladder and she was operated on yesterday morning.

At 4 pm, she was operated on again as there was internal haemorrhage on the right side of the lower abdomen. This morning, her condition worsened and she was declared dead at 8 pm.

Husband Ganesh Shah alleged that the doctors misinformed the family about her condition.

“Even when her condition was deteriorating, the doctors told us everything was under control and the operations were successful,” Shah said.
