The Anandabazar Patrika-GNIIT Scholarships for 2003 have been announced to help meritorious students pursue a career in information technology (IT). In its second year, the joint venture is the first scholarship scheme dedicated to IT.
The annual scheme has been launched on July 1 and will be on till July 31. The scholarship is valid only in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
A total number of 2,000 scholarships, ranging in value between Rs 2,000 and Rs 20,000, will be awarded on the basis of performance in the test and interview.
The test will be held on July 20 at St Xavier’s College, Calcutta, and NIIT centres, in case of other towns. The interview and counselling have been slated for July 23 and 24 and will be held at The Park hotel for the Calcutta zone. For candidates in other towns, the interview will be held at NIIT centres.
The last date for submitting the applications is July 19. Students, who have appeared for the Higher Secondary or equivalent examinations, or have passed the Plus-II level with a minimum of 45 per cent marks, are eligible for the test. Candidates will have to be 25 years old, as on June 30, 2003.
Awardees will be eligible for fee-waivers in all ‘Futurz’ courses, except CareerEdge, which mainly deal with software. Forms are available at all Anandabazar Patrika counters.
The scholarship will be awarded for GNIIT and other Career courses. The GNIIT is the premium course of NIIT, conducted over a period of three years.
The NIIT, which has been in eastern India for the past 15 years, has around 100 centres across West Bengal.
