Okoro optimistic

East Bengal’s Nigerian striker Mike Okoro believes his team will fare well in the inaugural ASEAN Club meet in Indonesia. “This team has the ability to compete with other Asian clubs. Moreover, we have a nice balance,” said Okoro, who signed for East Bengal for another season on Monday.

The Nigerian, however, admitted he was not “hundred per cent fit” but hastened to add that he would make use of the interval up to the meet, starting Sunday, to get back to a satisfactory fitness level.

“I just arrived Saturday (from Poland via London). But I’m hopeful to improve my fitness level before the meet begins,” he said. Okoro hailed the arrival of South African physical trainer Kevin Jackson as an “excellent thing to happen for East Bengal”.

Meanwhile, midfielder K. Kulothungan replaced Dipankar Roy in the ASEAN Club Championship-bound squad. East Bengal leave for Indonesia Tuesday night.

Schools soccer

Maharaja Jagadish Nath High School beat Najirpur High School by a Kamal Roy goal in the Raigunj leg of the Britannia-Anandabazar Cup football meet Monday.
