July 10 at Sisir Mancha; 6 pm: Krishnakali hosts a dance programme. The first half features Aalo Andhare Rabindranath, based on Tagore’s songs on Prem, Puja & Bichitra. Directed by Shyamal Saha, the programme will be presented by the pupils of Krishnakali. The second half features Bandish-O-Kathak, featuring Shyamal Saha (songs) and Rubena Chatterjee (dance). July 10 & 11 at Madhusudan Mancha; 6 pm: Samaroha hosts Varsha Utsav — a two-day programme of songs and recitation based on Tagore’s works. July 13 at Aikatan, IA 209, Salt Lake; 5 pm: The Salt Lake Cultural Association in colaboration with EZCC hosts Monsoon Melodies featuring Indrayudh Bose (violin) with Biswajit Roy (tabla), Atanu Majumdar (sitar) with Chiradeep Banerjee (tabla), and Gouri Guha (vocal) with Tarun Chatterjee (tabla) and Subhrakanti Chatterjee (harmonium).

EXHIBITION

Till July 31 (every Sunday) at Meena Bazar, Swabhumi; 12 noon onwards: Be-jewelled — an ethnic fair showcasing an exciting array of traditional non-precious jewellery made of terracotta, tassel, lac, white metal, silver, fibre glass, beads, stones, wood, steel, jute from differnt parts of the country.

July 8 at Ramakrishna Vedanta Math; 7 pm: Swami Atmabodhananda will discuss in Bengali Sri Sri Mayer Katha.

Till July 8 at Chitrakoot Art Gallery: Friends of Tibet, India, hosts an exhibition of photographs from the Tibet Museum on Tibet titled A Long Look Homeward. The photographs narrate the history of Tibet, Tibet in exile and also portrays the present situation of Tibet under the Chinese occupation.

book release

July 11 at Nandan II; 6 pm: Cine Central, Calcutta will flag-off its year-long programme to celebrate the 80th birthday of the doyen of Indian cinema, Mrinal Sen with the release of a book on the life and works of Sen by Deepankar Mukhopadhyay. Also screening of Sen’s film Interview.
